Concern is growing about the use of brominated vegetable oil (BVO) in some soft drinks and in response PepsiCo recently announced it would remove (BVO) from its Gatorade sports drinks.
Brominated vegetable oil is a synthetic chemical and is used as an emulsifier to help the flavoring mix better in soft drinks. Drinks that contain BVO usually look hazy or cloudy. When consumed in very high amounts over a long period of time, BVO can build up in the body and cause toxic effects. Very high levels of bromide in the bloodstream have been linked to kidney dysfunction and severe skin conditions.
Syfo Naturally-Flavored Sparkling Waters do not contain BVO (brominated vegetable oil). Syfo is made with the highest quality, finest natural flavorings and are completely PG (propylene glycol) and BVO (Brominated Vegetable Oil) free. This makes Syfo the healthy beverage choice when you’re looking for a delicious and refreshing flavored drink.
For more information on the use of BVO in soft drinks, read this WedMD article.
Underscoring the need for healthy beverages and healthy beverage alternatives, the Center for Science in the Public Interest filed a petition that the “caramel coloring” used in cola soft drinks and other foods is contaminated with two cancer-causing chemicals and should be banned. (more…) |
